Betsy starts school with great trepidation because her Grandfather's handyman had told her that school is full of dunce caps and switches. She doesn't tell her Mother her worries, but makes a good friend, Ellen, on the first day and enjoys school after all.

Back to School with Betsy

paperback
B&N
The first half of the book covers the end of summer, with Betsy's old teacher getting married and moving into the house behind hers.

Then her third grade year at school starts with another nice teacher. Betsy tries to get her parents to adopt a little lost black girl, but her parents call the police and the child is returned to her mother. As time goes on, the little girl becomes Betsy's sister, Star's best friend.

Betsy and the Boys Most of this book is harmless, but Betsy wants to play football with the boys and with the help of her friend the policeman, manages to become a member of the team.

After ripping some of her clothes, however, her parents give her new ice skates and skating lessons at the time of football practice. Presumably they think skating is more appropriate.
